Jai'len Josey on new album "Serial Romantic" and musicial influences
During the Jai'Len Josey Press Conference w/ °1824 I got to ask a question
Ja'Nasia : I saw you mentioned Stevie Wonder being an influence for your upcoming release " Serial Romantic", what are some other artists you grew up with that have inspired you musically?
Jai'Len Josey: My mom made sure that the house was filled with Stevie Nicks, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone.. I grew up on Luther.. Mary Mary . Shoot Alicia Keys that was literally the first album I heard. I heard Alicia Keys songs in A minor key on a purple CD player. That was like the first thing that I ever really experienced , that I remember when I was finally conscious. The list goes on .. Michael Jackson, Beyonce.. I'm a big Beyonce fan! I'm a big Michael Jackson fan! I know exactly where I was when he passed away. (sidnote: me too) Oo Chaka Khan and Anita Baker. My mom was basically a Dj , I mean she was a graphic designer but yk the house was the club. Especially when she would be cleaning. She would turn on some Jazz or Instrumentals. My mom's from Detroit so, the radio they played had many different things.
Then we bonded over a common experience of our moms playing music while cleaning and how that's when you know it is time to get up too! haha
Thank you Jai'Len congratulations on the new album and °1824 for the opportunity!
