GIRLSET Talks Rebrand and Plans for Future of Group
"I can get it on my own, so you better put in work (better put in work)
Never flirt with a girl like me 'cause I know what I deserve
And I need more, more."
GIRLSET released their first single, Commas, on August 29th, 2025. After a majorly successful rebrand, they have cultivated a large, deeply loyal fan base that spreads across many social platforms. Beyond their online presence, GIRLSET continues to carve their own path as a global girl group, letting the world know that they are loud, proud, and here to stay.
I had the honor of attending GIRLSET's press conference, hosted by °1824 where they discussed their rebrand, the message behind commas, and the music that will define their next era.
Camille, Savannah, and Lexi (Kendall was sick and couldn't make it) spoke about what it means to them to come together as a unified set and step into the future with the clarity and confidence that comes with such a successful transition into a new chapter that is all about being bold, polished, and unapologetic.
"The group's new name embodies their commitment to setting standards in the global artistic scene and taking control of their own artistic direction."
Annemarie (freelancer), asked about the group's name change, prompting the members to articulate that if they were really committed to rebranding, changing their name was the final nail in the coffin. To Camilla, this new name "set[s] who we want to be no matter what anyone says... We're our own person, we decide who we want to be... This is us now."
As individuals from different backgrounds who were brought together and trained in the Kpop system, their group was made to be a blend of different cultures. GIRLSET explains, after being asked by Maddy from Ohio State Music Industry Club how they incorporate both western and Kpop influences in their music, that while sonically they lean more western, they remain true to their Kpop roots with their bold visuals and iconic choreography.
When asked by Elliot from Bearcast Radio how they plan to set themselves apart from the global girl groups that came before them as well as groups that may debut after them, GIRLSET reiterates that the members are making sure they have a clear vision for the group and stay true to it. "In the industry it's kinda hard to not get influenced by others," they explained, going on to emphasize that sticking to a mindset is key. GIRLSET admits that while they are indeed inspired by other girl groups and proud to be following in their footsteps, they have their own story (and vision) that sets them apart. As a group, they want to incorporate more cultural sounds from their own diverse backgrounds that serve to bring everyone together.
To GIRLSET, their biggest role as a group is bringing representation to a global stage. Responding to Nikil Sivakumar from Utalent Records, the girls went into further detail explaining that they hope to be the role models and representation they didn't have when they were younger.
Commas is 2 minutes and 2 seconds of confidence and empowerment. With a second single, Little Miss, out streaming now and teasings of a new album, GIRLSET is worth keeping an eye on!
"Don't need your diamonds, don't need your pearls
'Cause I'm that girl that's always gonna put me first."
