(Q&A) BJRNCK Talks creativity and her signature Soulful sound
BJRNCK is an artist whose music feels both fresh and timeless. Her song "Safety" is a perfect example of this, blending emotional depth with a captivating sound that feels like it could resonate at any moment in time. The track’s atmospheric production and heartfelt lyrics give it makes it easy to connect with no matter when you listen. BJRNCK’s ability to craft songs that feel both current and again timeless shows just how special her music truly is.
I had the opportunity to speak with miss BJRNCK herself recently and ask two great questions!
Me: What did you allow yourself to do creatively for this upcoming project that you haven’t in the past?
BJRNCK: I would say completely write my songs. Most of my songs on this project like a lot of them I just wrote by myself. Which is new for me cause I been doing this for a very very long time. So, I would say my confidence overtime had kind of shrunk a little bit. Because it's like okay in anybody's head..If you are trying something and trying and trying..It's like well maybe I'm just doing what I'm not supposed to do the right way. Now I felt like I needed to have a writer or I needed to have a certain producer. After I had this traumatic situation where all of my music was basically taken away from me ..Someone gave me some really good advice which was just like "Make songs that no one can take away from you". Which is songs that I may have searched for ,started myself , recorded for myself , etc. Which is a very hands on and not really caring if people are going to like it or not. Just being very genuine in my music I think really was something different. I gained my confidence back. It's funny because I guess my confidence did not come back until after the music was made and the reactions were like "Omg this is the best music we've heard!" and I was like wow I should have been doing this. Writing my songs and believing in BJRNCK was different!
Me: How do you distinguish between simply writing a song and creating a piece of work that feels "soulful?"
BJRNCK: You know what's funny, I heard that I'm really good at that. I make conversation..I write very conversational.. and I think that helps with the "relatability"..like "take me out this club". "That's that crazy sh*t you like". That's like a sentence and I'm really good .. "Can you be my safety" I don't like repetitive hooks that just repeat the same words. I like to say this is exactly how I'm feeling. Like a statement ..So, I feel like that keeps the cool , relatability and then the music keeping the drums..Something that is hard hitting. I used to love how Mary J. Blige umm her beats were like rough but she was like crying on those songs. The piano.. just like singing and dancing ..the guitar riffs and those type of things that brought the soul in it. I feel like my music does somewhat the same!
Thanks again to BJRNCK my similar name twin hehe and °1824 for the invite!
